With <strong>Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB)<\/strong>, skin care is essential because wounds and blisters form very easily. On this page, I describe <strong>how I care for wounds with Epidermolysis Bullosa<\/strong>, what my daily morning and evening care looks like, and what medical supplies we use for it.  <\/p>\n<p>Every morning for me begins with wound care. With <strong>Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB)<\/strong>, skin care is an essential part of every day. The skin is very fragile, and wounds appear practically constantly, which is why regular care is important.  <\/p>\n<p>When I wake up, I call my mom. Mom prepares everything needed for wound care \u2013 bandages, plasters, creams, and other medical supplies. During the care, I mostly just lie on the bed, and Mom does everything necessary. We already have our daily routine.   <\/p>\n<p>Mom does the wound care on the bed, and it usually takes <strong>approximately 45 to 55 minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 >Caring for leg wounds with EB<\/h3>\n<p>First, Mom treats my <strong>calves<\/strong>, as that&#8217;s where I tend to have the worst wounds. She first removes my pajamas and takes off the old dressings. For my calves, we most often use <strong>Mepilex AG<\/strong> plasters, which are suitable for wounds with more inflammation or exudate.  <\/p>\n<p>After removing the dressing, Mom sprays the wounds with <strong>TENA or MoliCare cleansing foam<\/strong>. Approximately twice a week, we also use <strong>Prontosan<\/strong>, which serves as a wound disinfectant. <\/p>\n<p>Then the dressing is cut to the required size. Depending on the wound condition, we use: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Belogent cream<\/strong> for worse wounds<\/li>\n<li>or <strong>Aloe Vera Gelly<\/strong>, which helps soothe the skin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Finally, the dressing is secured with <strong>TG-fix<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 >Caring for feet and knees with EB<\/h3>\n<p>After the calves, we move on to the <strong>feet<\/strong>. Mom applies a special <strong>compounded ointment<\/strong> prescribed by our general practitioner. If a wound appears on the foot, it is covered with a plaster.  <\/p>\n<p>The foot is then wrapped with <strong>gauze<\/strong>, and finally, a <strong>bandage<\/strong> is used to hold everything in place.<\/p>\n<p>Then it&#8217;s time for the <strong>knees<\/strong>. Mom cuts the bandages, removes the gauze, sprays cleansing foam, and applies cream to dry scabs. The wounds are covered with a dressing, then the knee is wrapped with gauze and secured again with a bandage.  <\/p>\n<h3 >Caring for thigh wounds with Epidermolysis Bullosa<\/h3>\n<p>On the thighs, the <strong>TG-fix<\/strong> and old dressings are first removed. The wounds are cleaned with cleansing foam, and dry areas are treated with <strong>Epaderm cream<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>For the wounds themselves, we most often use:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mepilex AG<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>or other suitable dressing as needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For some wounds, <strong>Belogent cream or Aloe Vera Gelly<\/strong> is also used. Finally, everything is secured again with TG-fix. <\/p>\n<p>Once my legs are done, Mom helps me put on socks, underwear, and pants.<\/p>\n<h3 >Caring for back and torso wounds with EB<\/h3>\n<p>Then I sit up, and we continue with the upper body. Mom removes my tank top and starts with my <strong>back<\/strong>, where I have the largest and most problematic wound. <\/p>\n<p>After removing the dressing, the wound often starts to <strong>bleed<\/strong>. At that point, Mom presses sterile gauze to stop the bleeding. This moment is usually quite painful.  <\/p>\n<p>Once the bleeding stops, the wound is cleaned with foam, and, if necessary, we use:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Epaderm cream<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>or <strong>Aloe Vera Gelly<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the back, we most often use <strong>Mepilex XT<\/strong> because it can absorb a larger amount of fluid from the wound.<\/p>\n<h3 >Caring for chest, neck, and abdomen wounds with EB<\/h3>\n<p>After the back, the <strong>chest<\/strong> is treated. Here too, bleeding sometimes occurs after removing the dressing. After stopping the bleeding, the wound is treated with <strong>Belogent cream<\/strong> and covered with a <strong>Mepilex AG<\/strong> plaster.  <\/p>\n<p>Smaller wounds on the <strong>neck or abdomen<\/strong> are covered with a <strong>Mepilex Lite<\/strong> plaster, which is thinner and suitable for smaller wounds.<\/p>\n<h3 >A chronic elbow wound with Epidermolysis Bullosa<\/h3>\n<p>Finally, Mom treats my <strong>left elbow<\/strong>, where I&#8217;ve had a large chronic wound for many years. For this wound, we use <strong>Aloe Vera Gelly<\/strong> and a larger <strong>Mepilex Lite<\/strong> dressing. <\/p>\n<h3 >Caring for buttock wounds with EB<\/h3>\n<p>At the very end of the morning care, once I&#8217;m dressed and have my shoes on, I stand up, and Mom treats the wounds on my buttocks. Wounds often appear in this area too, and they can be very painful. <\/p>\n<p>If the wounds are deeper or larger, sitting can be very uncomfortable for me. Therefore, these wounds must also be regularly cleaned, creamed, and covered with a suitable dressing. <\/p>\n<h3 >Blisters and new wounds with Epidermolysis Bullosa<\/h3>\n<p>With Epidermolysis Bullosa, <strong>new wounds appear constantly<\/strong>. Some are small, others larger. <\/p>\n<p>Blisters appear regularly, and Mom always <strong>pierces them with a sterile needle<\/strong> to prevent them from enlarging and damaging the skin.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to <strong>Mepilex<\/strong> plasters, dressings no longer stick as often as in the past, so changing them is less painful.<\/p>\n<h3 >Evening wound care with EB<\/h3>\n<p>In the evening, we only do a <strong>check-up care<\/strong>, which takes approximately <strong>15 minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We check all wounds and, if necessary, change the dressing if it is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>slipped<\/li>\n<li>saturated<\/li>\n<li>or if a new wound has appeared<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During the day, dressings are changed as needed, for example, when a wound starts to hurt or when a dressing comes loose.<\/p>\n<h3 >Medical supplies we use for EB<\/h3>\n<p>For daily wound care, we use several types of medical supplies and special creams.<\/p>\n<p>For wound care, we mainly use:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plasters and Dressings<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adc.sk\/databazy\/produkty\/detail\/mepilex-ag-17-5x17-5cm-747190.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mepilex AG<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adc.sk\/databazy\/produkty\/detail\/mepilex-xt-20x20-cm-909077.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mepilex XT<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adc.sk\/databazy\/produkty\/detail\/mepilex-lite-obvaz-silikonovy-183874.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mepilex Lite<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Wound Disinfection and Cleaning<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prontosan (approximately twice a week)<\/li>\n<li>TENA or MoliCare cleansing foam<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Creams<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Belogent cream<\/li>\n<li>Aloe Vera Gelly<\/li>\n<li>Epaderm cream<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sterile gauze<\/li>\n<li>hydrophilic knitted bandages<\/li>\n<li>scissors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"align-self: center;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;margin-top:20px;margin-bottom:40px;width:100%;\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p>You can read more about me on this page &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/kristianhulala.sk\/en\/about-me\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">About Me<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-3260","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v22.1 (Yoast SEO v28.5) -
